The 7Cs of Initial Emergency Care Learning A workshop for enhancing First Aid, CPR & AED teaching skills Leading Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experts have repeatedly recognized that a critical weak link exists in community EMS Systems. Peter Safar, M.D., the late director of the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research at the University of Pittsburgh, noted that the weakest link in the chain of EMS System resources is the immediate care (or lack of it) provided by family, friends and co-workers. Instructors of first aid, CPR And AED programs use a wide variety of traditional and more recently developed initial emergency care training programs and materials. Regardless of the program utilized by instructors, this workshop will help those who teach initial emergency care to “non-emergency-clinicians” to better understand the needs of this audience and enhance the efficacy of their important public education services. The essence of education is learning! Effective first aid, CPR and AED training programs should help participants develop the vital behaviors needed at the time of a medical emergency:
This workshop will help instructors focus their first aid, CPR & AED training efforts on building student skills and confidence to perform the simple actions which can minimize the early complications of a medical emergency – and very possibly even prevent sudden death – when serious illness or injury are perceived. By journeying through the 7 C’s of Emergency Care Learning instructors will learn or re-affirm traditional and creative methods for providing and leading learning experiences for those who are the EMS System’s usually infrequent, often reluctant, but always vital first responders. |
